Geauga Youth Employment Program (GYEP)
**Notice to Youth Participants and Worksites:
The Geauga County Summer Youth Employment Program has undergone significant changes this year; many of which are mandated by the Ohio Department of Job & Family Services.
Now there are two summer employment programs, these programs are separated by age groups:
The 14 and 15 year old youth program is now referred to as Ohio Youth Works Program (OYWP).
16 years of age and older program is a designed activity under the Summer Comprehensive Case Management and Employment Program (CCMEP) which is a newly established youth employment program.
Youth in both programs will be required to engage in a comprehensive assessment tool and participate in writing their summer employment goals, known as an Individual Opportunity Plan.
The older youth, 16 and older will have participation requirements that include other activities related to education, occupational skill training, leadership development opportunities, financial literacy, comprehensive guidance, counseling services and follow-up services.
The mandates of the youth employment programs will require more time of both the youth and staff. Most participants must meet the 200% federal poverty income standard. Both summer employment programs will begin mid-to end of May and end on September 30, 2017. However, the age group from 16 years of age and older may be able to continue with their employment.
